Aparna Sinha is one of the pioneers in developing Anesthesia for the obese as a sub-speciality . Presently she is Director of Anesthesia and Perioperative care division of– Max Institute of Minimal Access, Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (MAMBS), at Max Healthcare Institute Ltd., Saket, New Delhi (India).
The Max Institute of MAMBS is accredited as an International Centre of Excellence for Bariatric Surgery by the Surgical Review Corporation (SRC), USA. and Centre of Excellence in Endohernia by the Asia Pacific Hernia Society. Aparna Sinha, is one of the anaesthesiologists in India to recognize and acknowledge the increasing prevalence of obesity in India.
With her characteristic determination, she has developed protocols for enhanced recovery after surgery programme for safe anesthesia to the morbidly obese patients.
Dr Aparna Sinha joined Max Super Speciality Hospital in 2009 and serves as Director Anaesthesiology, in Max Institute of MAMBS. She is pioneer in anesthesia for morbidly obese patients. Besides her special interest and expertise in Anaesthesia for the Morbidly Obese (Bariatric Anaesthesia), she has wide experience in Pediatric anesthesia and organ transplant cases. A graduate and post graduate from Maulana Azad Medical College and Safderjung Hospital, University of Delhi.
She is a teaching faculty in the Institute of MAMBS and the DNB programme at Max Super Speciality Hospital, Saket, New Delhi. She is extensively involved in research in the field of anesthesia, focussed on improving the safety outcomes in the field of Bariatric Anaesthesia. She is intrigued by the fact that there is so much to unravel and discover in the field of Anaesthesia for the Obese.
During her professional development she has been involved in extensive research in the field of anesthesia as principal investigator and has several national and international publications in peer reviewed journals. She has published book on anesthesia for the morbidly obese which is first of its kind in the Asia-Pacific. She has also co-authored books on pediatric anaesthesia, laparoscopy and endoscopic hernia surgery, and several published chapters.
Her main interest and focus currently is clinical research in Anaesthesia for Minimal Access, Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. She is founder President of Metabolic and Bariatric Anesthesia Research Foundation and has initiated Committee for Anesthesia and sleep Medicine
